This
is the second piece of Star Wars fan art that I completed, and can
also be seen under the Fan Art section of JediKnightII.net
I
started off with an old scanned sketch which I transformed into Darth
Maul within Paintshop Pro. Then I added a background layer, and rendered
a simple desert scene in Bryce, on which I used a motion blur filter
to get the speeding terrain effect.
The
lightsaber glow was a cop-out, I'm afraid, because I used a plugin.
I have since stopped using most plugins, and concentrated on painting
as much as possible freehand. All of the lighting effects in the scene
were added in a separate layer.
This
scene depicts Maul after his battle with Qui-Gon Jinn as they leave
Tatooine. In the picture, Maul has jumped onto the boarding ramp after
Qui-Gon - something I felt should have been in the movie, The Phantom
Menace.
